Ingredients

4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Apples:

    - In a large bowl, combine the diced apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Toss until the apples are well-coated. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

      Make the Crumble Topping:

        - In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the cubed cold butter into the mixture and use a fork or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. If using, stir in the chopped nuts for added crunch.

          Assemble the Jars:

            - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

              - Take individual glass jars (around 8 oz size works best) and fill each jar halfway with the apple mixture. Press down slightly to pack them.

                - Spoon the crumble topping generously over the apples, filling the jar to almost the top.

                  Bake:

                    - Place the jars on a baking sheet and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

                      Serve:

                        - Allow the jars to cool for a few minutes. Serve warm by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top for an irresistible treat!
