Ingredients

1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup (200g) brown sugar, packed

½ cup (100g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour

½ cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups (250g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

½ cup (90g) white chocolate chips (optional)

1 cup (100g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans - optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Cream the Butters and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed for about 2-3 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Mix Dry with Wet: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Don’t overmix!

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and white chocolate chips (if using) with a spatula. If desired, add the chopped nuts to the dough.

Scoop the Dough: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie as they will spread while baking.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are set around the edges but still soft in the center. They will continue to cook on the baking sheet after being removed from the oven.

Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Serve & Enjoy: Once cooled, enjoy these decadent cookies on their own or with a glass of milk!
