Ingredients

14 oz (400g) firm tofu, pressed and cubed

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

½ cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp olive oil (or cooking spray)

Optional for serving: Sweet chili sauce or your favorite dipping sauce

Instructions

Press the Tofu: Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel, place it on a plate, and set a heavy object (like a skillet) on top for about 20-30 minutes.

Prepare the Breading Stations: In a shallow bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, whisk together soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth. Lastly, place panko breadcrumbs in a third shallow dish.

Coat the Tofu: Once the tofu is pressed, cut it into bite-sized cubes. Take each cube and dip it first into the seasoned flour, ensuring it's fully coated. Shake off any excess flour. Then dip it into the soy sauce mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the panko breadcrumbs to coat thoroughly. Repeat for all tofu cubes.

Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes. This ensures an even cooking temperature for those crispy nuggets.

Air Fry the Nuggets: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with olive oil or cooking spray. Arrange the coated tofu nuggets in a single layer, making sure they are not overcrowded. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

Cook to Crispiness: Air fry the nuggets at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to promote even browning. Cook until they are golden brown and crispy.

Serve and Enjoy: Once cooked, remove the tofu nuggets from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce, and enjoy the delightful crunch!
