Ingredients

1 package (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix

1 cup water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

3 large eggs

1 package (3.9 oz) chocolate instant pudding mix

3 cups milk

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 container (12 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip)

18 Oreo cookies, crushed (plus extra for garnish)

Gummy worms (for decoration)

Edible grass (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Bake the Cake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.

Prepare the Pudding: In another bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and milk for about 2 minutes until it thickens. Set aside.

Mix the Cream Cheese Layer: In a separate mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together until creamy and smooth. Gently fold in the whipped topping until well combined.

Assemble the Layers: Once the chocolate cake has cooled, crumble it into small pieces and spread half of it in the bottom of a large trifle bowl or a glass dish. Add half of the cream cheese mixture on top, followed by half of the chocolate pudding mixture. Sprinkle half of the crushed Oreos over this layer.

Repeat the Layers: Add another layer of the crumbled chocolate cake, followed by the remaining cream cheese mixture, chocolate pudding mixture, and finish with the remaining crushed Oreos on top.

Chill: Cover the dirt cake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to let the flavors meld together and set properly.

Garnish and Serve: Before serving, decorate the top with gummy worms and extra crushed Oreos to create a dirt effect. If desired, sprinkle edible grass around for an extra touch.
