Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Garlic Bread Topping:

1 loaf of French bread or Italian bread

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/3 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

For the Sauce:

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Instructions

Prepare the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, parsley, basil, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix. Form into 16-18 meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter, and set aside.

Bake the Meatballs: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Prepare the Garlic Bread: While the meatballs are baking, slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and dried oregano. Spread this garlic butter mixture evenly on both halves of the bread. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Toast the Garlic Bread: Place the prepared garlic bread on another baking sheet and toast in the oven (at the same temperature) for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cheese is melted.

Combine Everything: In a large baking dish, pour the marinara sauce on the bottom. Place the baked meatballs on top of the sauce, making sure they are evenly spaced.

Top with Garlic Bread: Carefully place the toasted garlic bread halves on top of the meatballs and sauce, cheese side up.

Final Bake: Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the bread to become slightly crispy on top.

Serve: Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Cut into portions and serve warm.
