Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

2 cups beef broth

1 cup milk

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup sour cream

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp paprika

½ tsp dried thyme

2 tbsp olive oil

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cook the Meat: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until it is browned and crumbled, about 6-7 minutes. Drain excess fat, if needed.

Season the Mixture: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, paprika, and thyme, mixing well to combine. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the Potatoes: In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced potatoes, beef broth, and milk. Mix gently to ensure that potatoes are well coated.

Layer the Casserole: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the potato mixture evenly across the bottom. Sprinkle half of the beef mixture over the potatoes. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and beef.

Add Cheese and Sour Cream: Spread the sour cream evenly over the top of the final beef layer, and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously over everything.

Bake the Casserole: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 1 hour. After 1 hour, remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Let it Rest: Once out of the oven, let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving. This helps the layers set for easier serving.

Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top before serving for a pop of color, and enjoy this comforting dish with family or friends!
