Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)

1 medium onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional for thickening)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

Sauté the Vegetables: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until it's translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.

Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the Broccoli and Rice: Stir in the broccoli florets and cooked rice. Mix thoroughly to combine with the beef and onions.

Create the Sauce: Pour in the beef broth and soy sauce. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to create a slurry and add it to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender and the liquid has reduced slightly.

Melt the Cheese: Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy. If desired, top with extra cheese and cover with a lid for a couple of minutes to allow it to melt further.

Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions over the top for freshness and serve immediately. Enjoy your hearty, cheesy one-pan meal!
