Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or turkey)

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1/2 cup ketchup

2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)

1 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 (10 oz) can of refrigerated biscuit dough

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/4 cup sliced green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the ground meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.

Add aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Mix in sauces: Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes to meld the flavors.

Prepare the casserole: Spread the meat mixture evenly in a 9x13 inch casserole dish.

Add biscuit topping: Open the can of refrigerated biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into quarters. Scatter the biscuit pieces evenly on top of the meat mixture, creating a rustic topping.

Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

Add cheese: Remove from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese melts beautifully.

Garnish & Serve: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving for added color and flavor.
