2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)

2 ½ to 3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Toppings:

1 cup marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 ½ cups sliced pepperoni

½ cup sliced black olives (optional)

1 jalapeño, thinly sliced (optional for extra kick)

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions
 

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

      - In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 ½ cups of flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.

        - Mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, gradually add the remaining flour.

          - Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

            - Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

              Preheat the Oven:

                - Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.

                  Shape the Pizza:

                    - Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface.

                      - Roll or stretch the dough into a 12-inch round. Transfer it to a piece of parchment paper for easy handling.

                        Add the Sauce and Cheese:

                          - Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

                            - Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese and half of the mozzarella cheese over the sauce.

                              Load the Toppings:

                                - Arrange the pepperoni slices evenly over the cheese. If using, add black olives and jalapeños.

                                  - Sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top.
